Where Colores del Viento Sits
In Escaleras, the dramatic jungle hillside above Uvita and Bahía Ballena — one of the area's most coveted addresses for its sweeping Pacific views, enveloped in lush rainforest.
Escaleras is known for its steep roads and its spectacular outlook, and Colores del Viento makes the most of both: deep jungle, dramatic vistas, and the beaches and town of Uvita a drive down the hill. For the region itself, see Where You Are: Costa Ballena.
Arrival & Access (the 4x4)
Escaleras is famous for its steep climb — a genuine 4x4 is required, and the team meets you to guide you in.
The hillside road is the trade-off for the view; a real four-wheel-drive vehicle is needed, or a driver who knows it. Most guests fly into San José (SJO) and drive about three and a half hours south, or take the short flight to Quepos and continue by road; the team arranges 4x4 rentals and shuttles, and the local host (guests single out Jordan) meets you for check-in. The Architecture
This is the home's signature: an impressive, unique architectural style built to highlight the outdoors and frame the dramatic Pacific view from a huge, open main floor.
Colores del Viento — “Colors of the Wind” — is designed to dissolve the boundary between inside and out. Guests describe a “huge spacious main floor” with the master ensuite, opening completely to the view. It's a home for people who notice design, and who want the jungle and the ocean to feel like part of the rooms.
The Pool, the View & the Outdoor Bar
A pool set for the sunset, with birds wheeling over the jungle — and, on the lower level, an outdoor kitchen and bar where guests say they spent most of their time.
The pool-at-sunset, watching the birdlife, is the most-loved moment in the reviews. Below the main floor, an outdoor kitchen and bar becomes the social heart of the home — the place a group gathers to cook, drink, and watch the light change over the Pacific. As with any hillside pool, supervise children closely around the edge (more in Families & Multi-Generational Travel).

Bedrooms & Sleeping Arrangements
Three bedrooms sleeping six, with the master ensuite on the main floor — spacious, light, and oriented toward the view.
The layout puts the master ensuite on the huge main floor, with further bedrooms making the home a comfortable fit for a couple, a small family, or two couples. Tell the concierge how your party splits and they'll set it up before arrival.
Food, Chef & Service
A local host and the concierge team make it effortless — and the lower-level outdoor kitchen is built for a private chef.
The team handles check-in and anything you need: private chefs (the outdoor kitchen and bar are ideal for it), in-villa massages, grocery pre-stocking, drivers, and tours. Birthday and celebration set-ups are a frequent request here. The markets, fish vendors, and Uvita restaurants are covered in Food, Groceries, Chefs & Eating Well.
Wildlife & Soundscape
Set directly in the jungle, Colores del Viento comes with lots of wildlife around it — birdsong by day, and the deep quiet of Escaleras at night.
Guests describe the home as “directly in the jungle with lots of wildlife around,” with the pool-side birdwatching a particular pleasure. More in Wildlife & Living in Nature.
What to Understand Before You Book
Two honest notes, so the home is exactly what you expect.
First, the Escaleras road is steep and a 4x4 is genuinely required — plan a proper four-wheel-drive or a driver, and arrive in daylight the first time. Second, the architecture is wonderfully open and indoor-outdoor, which is part of its beauty; if you want fully sealed, climate-controlled rooms throughout, confirm the specifics with the team for your dates.
Who Colores del Viento Suits (and Who May Prefer Another)
It suits couples, design-lovers, and small families who want a striking, view-led home with a sociable outdoor bar and the drama of Escaleras.
If you value architecture, sunsets over the Pacific, and an outdoor kitchen-and-bar to gather around, Colores del Viento is a distinctive choice. You may prefer a different home if you need easy paved access with no 4x4, more than three bedrooms, or fully enclosed air-conditioned living throughout — the team can suggest homes like Casa ReSol instead.
“Wonderful house, amazing view, directly in the jungle with lots of wildlife around. Easy, perfect communication and an overall amazing stay.”
