Where Villa Roca Sits
On a private hillside above Ojochal, the celebrated food town at the southern end of the Costa Ballena — secluded in nature, with the Pacific and the Whale's Tail laid out below, yet minutes from some of the coast's best restaurants and beaches.
Villa Roca pairs seclusion with one of the area's great advantages: Ojochal, just below, is known across Costa Rica for its restaurants. The home feels “dropped into pristine natural beauty,” as one guest put it, while staying close to beaches, waterfalls, and dining. For the region itself, see Where You Are: Costa Ballena.
Arrival & Access (the 4x4)
Reaching Villa Roca is part of the adventure — a genuine 4x4 is required for the hillside road, and guests say the arrival is well worth it.
The climb is steep enough that a real four-wheel-drive vehicle is needed, or a driver who knows the way. Most guests fly into San José (SJO) and drive about three and a half hours south, or take the short flight to Quepos and continue by road; the team can arrange a 4x4 rental and a shuttle, and meets you to guide you in. The Home & Its Design
A brand-new, custom-designed villa where the architecture is the point — intimate, thoughtful, and built to frame the view, with finishes that guests say the photos don't do justice.
Villa Roca is a recent, bespoke home, and design-minded guests notice: clean lines, a considered interior, and spaces that open completely to the ocean. At three bedrooms for six, it's deliberately intimate — a home for a couple, a small family, or a few friends rather than a big group — which is part of why it feels so personal. “The pictures online don't do it justice” is a recurring line in the reviews.
The View & the Pool
An infinity pool set on the edge of the view, with the Whale's Tail and the Pacific beyond — the centre of the home, and where the days here tend to unfold.
The view is the most-mentioned thing in the reviews, and the infinity pool is where guests take it in, sunset after sunset. The home is built around that outlook, with the pool, the terrace, and the living spaces all oriented toward the ocean. As with any infinity pool, supervise children closely around the edge (more in Families & Multi-Generational Travel).
A Closer Look
A few moments from around Villa Roca — the pool and the view, the design, the setting. (Photos to come.)
Bedrooms & Sleeping Arrangements
Three bedrooms sleeping six, with ocean and jungle views — an intimate layout that suits a couple, a small family, or a few close friends.
The three-bedroom scale is deliberate: Villa Roca is a personal, design-led retreat rather than a big-group house. Guests note the comfort and the care in every detail. Tell the concierge your group and they'll set it up before arrival. (Travelling with work to do? Ask the team about the Wi-Fi speed for your dates — it's a question they're used to.)
Food, Chef & Ojochal
One of Villa Roca's quiet advantages is its address: Ojochal, just below, is the gourmet capital of the Costa Ballena — and a private chef can bring that quality straight to the villa.
Few places on this coast put you closer to genuinely good restaurants than Ojochal, and the team can recommend the best of them, arrange a private chef at the villa, pre-stock the kitchen, and book in-villa massages and tours. The markets, fish vendors, and restaurants of the region are covered in Food, Groceries, Chefs & Eating Well.
Wildlife & Soundscape
Secluded in the hills, Villa Roca is properly in nature — birdsong and the movement of the canopy by day, deep quiet at night.
Guests describe the privacy and the natural beauty as much as the view; the home sits in the jungle, with wildlife in the trees and the sounds of the forest around it. More in Wildlife & Living in Nature.
What to Understand Before You Book
Two honest notes, so the home is exactly what you expect.
First, the 4x4 road is real and a little adventurous — plan a proper four-wheel-drive or a driver, and arrive in daylight the first time. Second, this is an intimate three-bedroom home for up to six; it's not a large-group or events house. Neither surprises a guest who's read it here.
Who Villa Roca Suits (and Who May Prefer Another)
It suits couples, small families, and small groups who want a beautiful, brand-new, design-led home with a great view and great food nearby.
If you value architecture and intimacy over scale, want a Whale's-Tail view and an infinity pool, and like the idea of Ojochal's restaurants on your doorstep, Villa Roca is a lovely fit. You may prefer a different home if you need more than three bedrooms, easy paved access, or a venue for a larger event — the team can point you to homes like Casa Amigos or Casa Frenchie instead.
“Such great views — the pictures online don't do it justice. We will be back!”
