Where Casa Amigos Sits

High on a private ridge above Dominicalito, with an open view over the bay and the Pacific — secluded and quiet, yet less than ten minutes down to the beaches, restaurants, and town.

Casa Amigos is set into the mountainside above Dominicalito Bay, just south of Dominical on Costa Rica's Southern Pacific coast, on a very large private plot. It's genuinely secluded — jungle on every side, sunsets straight off the deck — but practical things stay close: the beaches, a grocery store, and Dominical's restaurants are all a short drive down. It shares the same ridge as a small cluster of ocean-view homes, which makes it easy to pair with a neighbour for a larger group (see below). For the region itself, see Where You Are: Costa Ballena.

Arrival & Access (the 4x4)

Casa Amigos sits up a steep jungle road and is only reachable with a genuine 4x4 — or a driver who knows the way. It's the trade-off for the height, the privacy, and the view, and guests say it's worth it.

A true four-wheel-drive vehicle is required; the final climb is steep and can feel treacherous in the dark, so arriving in daylight makes the first trip far easier. Many groups rent the best 4x4 they can and become comfortable with the road after a day; others skip the driving entirely and let the team arrange a private driver and car service. Most guests fly into San José (SJO) and drive about three and a half hours south, or take the scenic 45-minute flight to Quepos (Sansa or Green Airways) — even a private plane for up to ten — and continue by road. The team meets you off the main road and guides you up (look for a white Toyota Prado). One honest note from the reviews: there's no walking to dinner, and a local taxi runs roughly US$50 each way to restaurants and bars. The Home & Its Design

A 2022 contemporary villa of glass, steel and wood, built to dissolve the line between indoors and out — open-concept living downstairs, a separate upstairs lounge with a wet bar, and ocean-and-jungle views from every room.

The architecture is modern and light, designed entirely around the setting: walls of glass, deep terraces, and an open downstairs that flows straight out to the pool and the view. Upstairs is a second, separate living space with its own wet bar — a quiet retreat or a second gathering spot. The home runs to roughly 4,844 ft² with six TVs, a Sonos sound system, and the calm, gallery-like finish guests mention again and again: “even better than the photos.” Air conditioning runs throughout, backed by a dozen ceiling fans and the cross-breezes the ridge catches.

The View

The view is the headline here — nineteen of thirty-one guest reviews single it out. An open sweep over Dominicalito Bay and the Pacific, jungle in the foreground, and sunsets guests describe as unlike anything they've seen.

From the infinity pool, the terraces, and every bedroom, the land falls away to the ocean. Mornings open over the bay; evenings end with the sun going down over the water from the pool's edge. “Camera-ready views are everywhere” is almost a refrain in the reviews — it's the single thing guests mention most, ahead of even the pool and the service.

A few moments from around Casa Amigos — the pool and the view, the architecture, the living spaces. (Temporary listing photos — final photography to come.)

Bedrooms & Sleeping Arrangements

Four ocean-view bedrooms, each with a king bed and its own ensuite bathroom — two of them masters with a bathtub — sleeping eight in real comfort and privacy.

Every bedroom faces the ocean, and every one is ensuite, which guests travelling as couples single out as a genuine luxury for a group of this size. Two of the bedrooms are masters with their own bathtubs; the other two have showers; there's a half-bath as well. One of the four bedrooms can be set up with two twin beds instead of the king — useful for children or friends sharing — so the configuration flexes to your group. Tell the concierge how your party splits and they'll set it up before you arrive.

The Pool & Spa

A standout, even here: a saltwater, double-negative-edge infinity pool with a built-in spa, set on the edge of the ridge so the water reads straight into the ocean and the sunset.

The pool is saltwater (gentler than chlorine) with a twin infinity edge and a heated spa alongside — warm water for the cooler evenings guests ask about, and the spot where most stays seem to centre. It's serviced regularly (pool cleaning runs Mondays and Thursdays), and the team can schedule it around the times you're out. As with any open infinity pool on a hillside, close supervision is essential with children — which is part of why the home carries a recommendation against children under ten (more in Families & Multi-Generational Travel).

Kitchen, Food & Chef

An open-plan kitchen (gas and electric) that's easy to cook in for the group — and a private chef, which guests recommend repeatedly, often serving the whole table family-style.

The kitchen is fully equipped, and the team can arrange a private chef for a single dinner or the whole stay — meals are typically served family-style so everyone shares from the table — along with grocery pre-stocking and special requests (a custom birthday cake from a well-loved Uvita bakery is a recurring one). In-villa massages, a yoga instructor, and a bartender can all be arranged. The markets, fish vendors, and Dominical restaurants are covered in Food, Groceries, Chefs & Eating Well.

Weddings, Celebrations & Retreats

With its open setting over the bay, Casa Amigos has become a natural choice for milestone trips — it has hosted a wedding, with the owner's blessing for ceremonies, along with client retreats, bachelorette and birthday trips, and family celebrations.

The view makes a striking, low-effort ceremony backdrop, and the home's exclusive use and easy indoor-outdoor flow suit a celebration well. The team handles the parts that make an event run — private chefs and a family-style or formal dinner, a custom cake, décor, in-villa massages, a photographer, and the logistics around guests arriving up the mountain. One guest summed up a corporate retreat here simply: it “exceeded our expectations… great concierge service that made hosting our guests effortless.” If you're considering a wedding or a larger event, share the guest count and what you have in mind — the team will confirm what's possible and plan the setup, including a neighbouring second home if your group outgrows the eight beds.

Power, Staff & Practicalities

Two honest notes for a remote ridge home: cleaning and concierge are well looked after, and the main house has a battery backup that covers the essentials — though not the air-conditioning — during the area's occasional, usually-short outages.

The home is privately gated with its own entrance, a security system, alarm, safe, and smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors. Housekeeping is included and coordinated around your schedule, and — importantly for privacy — no one enters the villa unless you request it; the only thing the team can't control is the shared community road, which stays open to neighbours and service providers. On power: area-wide outages do happen on this coast (often after heavy rain) and are usually brief. The house has a battery-backup system that keeps the 120-volt essentials running through an outage, but the larger 240-volt loads — the air-conditioning, oven, and dryer — go off until the grid returns, which the team reports to the power company as it happens. Wi-Fi covers the home and is fine for messaging, streaming, and light remote work; in heavy rain it can briefly dip, as across the region.

Wildlife & Soundscape

Lush, secluded, and full of life — guests describe the jungle experience they came for, with wildlife in the trees and quiet that's complete after dark.

Set into mature forest on a large plot, the home is alive with birdsong and the movement of the canopy; guests routinely mention the wildlife and the deep quiet alongside the view. Sightings vary by week and season, but the sense of being immersed in nature — while still comfortable and modern — is a constant in the reviews. More in Wildlife & Living in Nature.

What Guests Consistently Appreciate

What to Understand Before You Book

Three honest notes, so the home is exactly what you expect on arrival.

First, the 4x4 road is real and steep, and best driven in daylight — groups uneasy with mountain roads should plan a driver. Second, this is a drive-to-everything home: nothing is within walking distance, and a local taxi runs about US$50 each way to town. Third, the home is, by the owner's recommendation, not suited to children under ten — the open infinity pool and the hillside setting mean younger children would need constant supervision; families with older children are very welcome and stay often. None of these surprise a guest who's read them here — which is the whole point.

Who Casa Amigos Suits (and Who May Prefer Another)

It suits couples and groups of up to eight who want a modern, private, view-first home — for a special trip, a wedding or celebration, a small retreat, or a family with older children.

If you want camera-ready ocean views, a saltwater infinity pool and spa, contemporary design, and full concierge service, and you're comfortable with a 4x4 or a driver, this is a standout. You may prefer a different home if you need easy paved access with no 4x4, want to walk to the beach, are travelling with young children, or need more than four bedrooms under one roof — in which case the team can point you to homes like Casa Colibri or pair Amigos with a neighbour (below).

Larger Groups & Combining Homes

Casa Amigos sits in a small cluster of ocean-view homes on the same ridge, so it pairs naturally for groups that outgrow eight beds.

A couple of minutes down the same road is Casa Frenchie, a larger jungle estate, and its immediate neighbour Villa Vista del Mar. Groups have booked Casa Amigos together with one of these for reunions, weddings, and retreats — two complete, comparable houses a short distance apart, with the bedrooms and pools of both. The team can quote and coordinate a combination as a single stay; more on grouping homes in Families & Multi-Generational Travel.

“The villa was even better than the photos and far beyond what we expected. Beautiful atmosphere, stylish comfort, and top-level service — we felt truly happy here.”

Quick FAQ

Do I need a 4x4 to reach Casa Amigos?

Yes — a genuine four-wheel-drive vehicle is required. The final climb is steep and can be tricky after dark, so arrive in daylight if you can. The team can also arrange a private driver and car service.

How many guests does it sleep, and how is it laid out?

Eight, in four ocean-view bedrooms, each with a king bed and its own ensuite bathroom. Two are masters with bathtubs; one bedroom can convert to two twins. There's also a half-bath.

Is there air conditioning in the bedrooms and common areas?

Yes — air conditioning runs throughout the home, with twelve ceiling fans and the ridge's cross-breezes as well.

Is the pool heated, and is it saltwater?

It's a saltwater double-edge infinity pool with a built-in, heated spa alongside — warm water for cooler evenings.

Can you host a wedding or a celebration here?

Yes — the owner welcomes ceremonies, and Casa Amigos has hosted a wedding along with retreats and milestone trips. The team can arrange a chef, cake, décor, massages, a photographer, and a neighbouring second home for larger groups. Share your plans and guest count.

Is it suitable for young children?

The home carries an owner's recommendation against children under ten, mainly because of the open infinity pool and hillside setting. Families with older children are very welcome; younger children would need constant supervision.

How far is the beach and town?

Less than ten minutes down the hill by vehicle — nothing is within walking distance, and a local taxi runs about US$50 each way.

Is there backup power if the electricity goes out?

The main house has a battery backup that keeps the 120-volt essentials running during an outage, but not the air-conditioning, oven, or dryer (240-volt loads). Area outages happen but are usually short.

How private is it, and is there staff on site?

It's privately gated and secluded, and no one enters the villa unless you request it. Housekeeping is included and scheduled around you; the only thing the team can't control is the shared community road, which stays open to neighbours and service providers.

Can you arrange chefs, massages, drivers, and tours?

Yes — all included as concierge service: private chefs (often family-style), in-villa massages, a yoga instructor, drivers, grocery pre-stocking, and tours.

Are pets or smoking allowed?

No pets, and no smoking inside.

Where can I book Casa Amigos?

You can book directly with Pura Villas — at puravillas.com or by messaging the team — and it's also featured across leading luxury villa platforms and Airbnb, where it holds a perfect rating. It's the same villa and local team wherever you find it.

Where to Book & Booking Direct

You'll find Casa Amigos across leading luxury villa platforms — but booking directly with the local team is usually the best value, and always the most personal.

The home is featured on major villa portals as well as Airbnb, where it carries a perfect guest rating across thirty-one stays. It's the same villa wherever you discover it.

That said, a direct enquiry tends to serve you best. The large portals add their own service fees and taxes on top of the nightly rate; reaching the Pura Villas team directly often means a better rate, and always means a real person who can shape the stay — the chef, the driver, the 4x4, a wedding or a neighbouring second home for a larger group — from your first question through to check-out.

How to inquire

Start planning a stay at Casa Amigos.

To check availability or to start planning a stay, the simplest path is to message the Pura Villas team directly. Responses typically arrive within a few hours from a local team member rather than an automated system, and questions about dates, group size, the road, the chef, a wedding, and concierge services are answered personally.

Cancellation: no penalty until 61 days before check-in; 50% from 60 to 31 days; 100% within 30 days. Final cleaning US$135 / booking.
